Hilfe bitte.
Wie entfernt man die Abschlusskappe (Ersatzteilekatalog S.68/25) von die Largergehauese (S.68/18)? Es gibt nichts zu fassen!
(How do you remove the Abschlusskappe from its housing? There is nothing to get hold of!

die Abschlusskappe geht beim Ausbau kaputt! Du musst wohl oder übel z.B. mit einem Schraubendreher ein Loch hinein machen und die Kappe verformen.
Wenn jemand eine zerstörungsfreie Art der Demontage kennt, bin ich sehr daran interessiert!

from my experience there will be no other choice than to destroy the cover by means of a screwdriver. Just punch in a hole into the cover and by defroming the cap you will get it out!
If there is anybody out here who knows how to do it without destroying the cover please let me know as well!

Hi Maurice,
if you are lucky you MAY be able to save ONE of the sheetmetal rings when you disassemble the wheel bearing assembly. Remove the inner ring (the one that points towards the engine) the way it has been described in the previous entries (the brutal screwdriver method). Remove the big circlip that holds the inner wheelbearing in place. Then press/carefully tap the shaft out of the wheelbearing housing. Once the shaft is out you may or may not be able to remove the outer ring by using levers, customizes pullers or any other contraption that you may have or quickly invent/manufacture for that purpose. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, depending on how badly the respective ring is rusted in the housing. Good luck!

It's all apart now. We drilled a small hole in the metal cap, screwed in a small self tapping screw and using this were able to prise out the caps quite easily. It should not be too hard to block the small hole again.

what did I say, ...or any other contraption you may quickly invent..... . Well done, ingenuity is what you need when you work on vintage cars.
Note that nowadays we only use (code)-2RS type bearings, i.e. bearings with two rubber seals and grease filled for life. No oil seals necessary any more.
